The Final Inspection
The warrior stood and faced God,
Which will always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, old warrior,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?”
The warrior squared his shoulders and
Said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t,
‘Cause those of us who carry guns
Can’t always be saint.
“I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
‘Cause the world is awfully rough.
“But, I never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
“And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
“I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
“If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand. In life
I didn’t expect nor need too much,
So if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the warrior stood quietly.
For the judgment of his God.
“Step forward now, my warrior,
You’ve born your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in Hell.”

Stacy:
Thank you so much for the invite. I just want you to know just how much you are appreciated by your law enforcement brothers and sisters in the streets. There is a simple reason for this , yet the simple reason takes an incredible amount of guts, calmness, training, education on the area you are covering, understanding all the officers you are dispatching during the particular tour you are working combined with the ability to work under a tremendous amount of stress. keeping control in a situation that is beyond your control, which has got to be frustrating. You are our link and lifeline...without someone like you on the radio, handling our backup, notifications for additional agencies, staying calm when we call over that we are in an active shooting, chase or other life threatening situation, we would have trouble and chaos. I can't tell you how many times I have had my life save by a dispatcher who new his or her job....right down to the day that I was a vest save (10/31/1993) and a civilian and then an off duty officer called for backup...you are like our guardian angels...and I thank you, if you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to ask....your new friend, Michael

Stacy, hello from Richmond VA and thank you for being my friend. I do appreciate it very much. Take care of yourself and don't have too much fun telling cops where to go. :) David

Hey Stacy--Thanks for the add and for the all too often thankless communications job you do. Thanks too to your husband for his service to our country. It's folks like you and him who are carrying on the proud tradition of service to our country today. I'll look forward to chatting with you from time to time. Be safe up there in Corpus Christi and have a great weekend. Carl
