Did not work with him, N/ASummary: It is my opinion ,as a twenty seven year Police Officer, that Tom Nugent has many necessary qualities to offer as a Police Officer. His past Army record demonstrates to me that he absorbs knowledge completely, rapidly and knows how to utilize it.His patriotism to his country shows his character and will again, demonstrate itself as a top notch law enforce officer and leader.

: Tom, Sorry I dent get back to you sooner, been kind of crazy here at the home front. Much of Southern Arizona does not have cell-phone coverage when you are sounded like a bowl by mountains, were still not into all the technology but were getting there. In the desert there is nothing bigger then a mountain lion that could be a threat, other than the drug cartels, Mexican police and the drug smugglers. There are no bears in or wander about in the desert. Yes there are many coyotes here, and no they are not a threat to people here there more scarred of us then we are of them, we never had a case of a coyote that had rabies. Yes it will be ok to build a campfire that’s only if we had a good monsoon season, the sand, dirt, rock on the desert floor is firm enough to ride/push a bicycle on it and it is also so rough, rocky, and uneven that it would be better to walk but that depends on where you are going to camp at. The drug cartels do not stay on or near any paved and dirt roads they will be waiting for people know as (coyotes) that will sneak them across the border to a drop site or house. Oh my god don’t even get me started on the ATV’s and dirt bikes, tom you will fit right in have the people here don’t have a motorcycle license either. A horse can take you anywhere that a 4 wheeled one can’t go. Yes you can camp on O’odham land only on permitted places. Yes it is pretty bad but the fires are in the area but not close to where I live just have to deal with all the smoke that the wind brings. I don’t mind at all with your questions you are the first that’s willing to learn before coming to the res. Your Friend, Florine

Tom, I know I was not there and that there is no need for me to apologize, but I just have to say it just the way we were raised. My late grandmother and great grandfather always told me that the way people act at traditional events will bring dishonor to other Native Nations, along with disrespect and dishonor to them and their family. Like great grandfather used to tell us “If others tell or you witness bad examples always apologize for them” I know you will be able to run/walk from Arizona to California after you’re physically, spiritually and mentally ready. God Bless and always happy to help you out. Your dear friend Florine

Tom,
Yes I do know an elder who teach how to survive in the desert with only a knife but there’s a catch he will not do anything when I starts to cool off only when it’s the spring and summer, but it very hard to get in touch with him he’s always somewhere out in the desert with the younger boys who are coming into teenage and adulthood. He also just got back from a journey called the “rite of passage to manhood” it’s the traditional journey of young O’odham males that run and walk to the Gulf of California to gather salt and bring it back home is the rite of passage to manhood that is like many other O’odham traditions, here the understanding that for young men and boys it’s a rite of passage. Young men were told to go on this journey, to endure suffering as a way to understand themselves, to help them go into the next phase of their lives, into adulthood. Sorry to hear about the pow- wow experiment, and sorry to say some people do think they know everything about the “old ways” and surviving in Nature when truthfully they don’t know anything all. Be well and stay safe. God Bless.
