Tom, Your very welcome always glad to help with the info. Yes they do sell bottled water, and on your way to the mountain on the same dirt road you will pass our museum, hope you are not in too much of a rush to stop by and have a look. Florine

Tom, Sorry to say Topawa is not a town it is only one of many small village’s here on the res, and again sorry to say it does not have a gas station or a store. But before you head to village you have to go through sells that is the only place we have a gas station and store where you can get your non-perishable food and fresh vegetables and fruit. Tom, The weather in early Oct, are nice and cool were about in the 70’s or so. You really don’t have to worry about the cartels that only if you’re not going to camp or hike near the border because that’s where they always stay, but as for the illegal’s you can spot them right away in the desert by the water containers and backpacks bags they are carrying. You are allowed to take as many pictures you want on the res. So happy to hear that the trip is on, sorry to say there are no topographical maps of our land and yes compasses do work on the land and no there is no possible way to camp near a water source when water does not last long here in the desert, so it is best to bring several gallons of bottled water. As far as we found out we don’t have “alkalie” water. Tom I just got notates that they are not letting anybody camp in the desert anymore there only letting them camp at the mountain in Topawa on Baboquivari Peak it is the most sacred place to our people. It is the center of the Tohono O’odham cosmology and the home of our creator, I’itoi. According to our tribal legend, he resides in a cave below the base of the mountain. You can find more info about the mountain on the internet or you can on Wikipedia or you can do what my cousin said and use yahoo web and type in Baboquivari Mountains and it well bring a little more.
