"A New York City Police Officers Christmas"
Twas the night before Christmas
and all through the hood,
the perps were all stirring.
They were up to no good.
On the roof of the project
their smoke filled the air.
They knew they were trespassing,
but they just didn’t care.
The smoke from their blunts
created a fog,
as they burned even brighter
than the brightest Yule Log.
They smoked and they laughed
and they passed the malt liquor.
As the evening progressed,
the fog would grow thicker.
Then suddenly, one asked
“What the hell?”
hearing off in the distance
the jingle of bells.
“Could that be old Santa?”
as a blunt was relit.
“If it is that old bastard,
we’ll take all his stuff!”
Then suddenly they saw
a figure appear.
There was no white beard
and not one reindeer.
The jingle had come
from his ring full of keys.
The fear he instilled
made them drop to their knees.
The suit he was wearing
was not of red fleece.
Just the blue uniform
of the New York City Police.
The minute they saw him,
they began to take flight,
like a room full of roaches
exposed to the light.
Down through the stairwells,
down through the halls,
dash away, dash away,
dash away all.
He chose not to chase them,
our jolly old elf.
He just stood for a while
and laughed to himself.
Why run down the stairs
and slip on the piss?
He had plans tonight,
he wasn’t going to miss.
An elevator ride
to the lobby he took.
On leaving the building,
up for bottles he’d look.
He was heard to exclaim
as he drove out of sight
“That call was unfounded,
end of tour and goodnight.”
