naw, about 40 mins for the tow truck .... it was a crappy vacation, two days later was september 11th

Oh yeah ... even though it is March, snow is mostly melted, does not mean we are out of the woods here. April can be full of surprises. Snow, ice, rain to mud, to black flies, mosquito's etc ... ah yes, fire season, brother, funny story I will share with you. My last trip to So Cal was Aug/Sept 2001, I had visited a buddy up in San Fran, I was headed back to Oxnard, I broke down on the 5 about 50 miles or so north of Oxnard. About an hour later CHP rolled up behind me, did the usual file check, etc .. I told them I was okay, broke down, they offered to call a tow. Then they asked: "Are you here to fight the fires ?" My response was "No, I am here on vacation." "Vacation, you are not here to fight the fires." "Nope, vacation" I said. The CHP Officer says, "They let you take a company vehicle on vacation ?" I chuckled a little, "Yup" What was embarassing, they said to me, "If you need any further assistance, just call us." So, dumbfounded, as my truck has old antique radios (GE Mastr II), I said, "how would you like me to do that, what frequency ?" "No no, the call box right there .." I never saw the call box about 25 feet ahead. (It was 4 am mind you).
