Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident
Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident In Yard

    POSTED: 3:18 pm EST November 24, 2009
    UPDATED: 1:38 am EST November 25, 2009
[BUZZ: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [DELICIOUS: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [DIGG: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [FACEBOOK: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [REDDIT: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [RSS] [PRINT: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident] [EMAIL: Bow Police Officer Killed In Chainsaw Accident]
BOW, N.H. -- A Bow police officer was killed Tuesday morning in an accident at his home involving a chain saw.

Bow officials said Nathan Taylor, 34, died at his Epsom home, and town officials were notified of his death by the Epsom police chief.

Relatives said Taylor was alone, trimming tree branches on his property on Goboro Road when the chainsaw kicked back and cut across his upper body. Taylor was able to call 911, but by the time paramedics arrived, he was dead.

    Nathan Taylor
"He cared for his family and he cared for everyone around him. He's the best person I've ever met in my life."
    - Mike Ferrelli,
    Officer's Brother-In-Law

Taylor's sister, Karyn Ferrelli, said he had built his family's house from the ground up, and improving the property was one of his passions.

"He loved working on his house. He took nine months off from work before he went to the police academy and built his house, and after he built his house, he went on to his dream of being a cop," Ferrelli said.

Ferrelli described her brother was a loving and generous man, saying he was "an all-around great guy to be around. He was the best brother in the whole wide world."

"He was a good man," said Mike Ferrelli, Taylor's brother-in-law. "He cared for his family and he cared for everyone around him. He's the best person I've ever met in my life."

Family members said because Taylor was a policeman, they understood he lived with a certain amount of danger every day, but they never expected to lose him, especially not like this.

The family released a statement Tuesday night, saying, "Nathan was a bright spot in all our lives. He loved his family and friends deeply. He was a kind, caring man who would help anyone in need. The world was a better and safer place with him in it. Nathan will be in our hearts and souls forever."

"He loved working on his house. He took nine months off from work before he went to the police academy and built his house, and after he built his house, he went on to his dream of being a cop."
    - Karyn Ferrelli,
    Officer's Sister

Taylor was hired by the Bow Police Department in February 2008 and previously worked in the Loudon Police Department. Bow town manager James Pitts said Taylor was a model employee and a good officer.

"He was a very solid, very dependable and even-tempered police officer, a good man to have on the street," Pitts said. "Other town employees are already meeting, trying to figure out how we can best assist the family at a time like this."

Loudon's police chief said Taylor was a cable Internet technician with Johnson Controls when the department hired him full-time in 2006 and put him through the police academy.

"Officer Taylor was a very solid officer who always went out on the street and tried to do the best that he could for the people of Bow," Pitts said.

Bow officials said they will be making counselors available to members of the police department and their families.

Taylor is survived by a wife and 4-year-old daughter.

We're asking for the public's assistance in helping our trusted police dog, Mica, win her battle against cancer. Any donations, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated.

Checks should be made out to the Weare Police K-9 Relief Fund and can be mailed to:
