( (A True Friend) I Don’t Suffer From Insanity I Enjoy Every Minute Of It My name is Donna Saylor, I am employed by New Hanover County Public Safety, in Wilmington North Carolina as a Shift Supervisor for a 911 center. I have been employed with the 911 center for 16 years and if someone was to ask me if there was anything else I would rather be doing. My answer would be, other then right now, laying on the beach drinking a long island ice tea! NO!!!!!!! I love my job and everything it stands for. I take the good with the bad and roll with punches everyday. Because no two days are alike, that is what helps to make this job unique exciting and fun. Don't get me wrong, it is a high energy, high stress and if you ask me on a bad day an under paid job. I am a people person. I love dealing with the public, directly and indirectly. I like to interact with the various agencies we dispatch for. The Census Bureau 2006 estimates set the population of the Wilmington Metropolitan area at 326,166, making it the sixth largest metropolitan area in the state. It is the county seat of New Hanover County. Our 911 center is a fairly large center, on average we answer 180,000 911 calls a year and 260,000 administrative calls a year. All of our telecommunicators are cpr, emd, efd and dci certified along with other various certifications. Even though we are somewhat a large agency, we tend to become territorial or family like. When "one" grieves we all grieve, when "one" celebrates we all celebrate. The closeness extends even outside dispatch and filters among our fire agencies, ems and law enforcement agencies that we dispatch for. WE ARE NEW HANOVER COUNTY! WE ARE FAMILY! Just a little personal bio to bore you with.....I am single/divorced however you want to refer or view me as. I have two grown children. Courtney, my oldest who is a mother of two herself. Zachary is 3 years old January 28, 2009 Zoie, precious Zoie turned 1 Feb 16,2009. Zachary's name means "God Remembers" and Zoie's means "Life". How appropriate for brother and sister to walk hand in hand through life. "God Remembers Life" Some might think it is Sappy, but I like it!!! And, yes I had something to do with it!! Caleb my son, is19, He is currently in the United States Air Force stationed in the state of Washington State. He is beginning his training as a S.E.R.E. member. Something that is decided upon and chosen prior to basic training. The acronym stands for Survival, evasion, resistance and escape. My hat goes off to him and I could never be more proud. I was born an raised an army brat! I cannot complain, it kept a roof over our heads, food in our mouth, and gave us an education!!!! UNCLE SAM YOU ROCK!! . I am proud of both of my (small humans). I can't call them that anymore...they have grown up on me. I pretty much raised them on my own. Their father is among the ranks of dead beat dads.....long story on that one! Was housed by New Hanover County's finest facility for being in arrears of over 40 thousand. Will I ever see that money? Probably not!!!!!!!! Does the system work for the children and the parents trying to raise them, I am not the one to ask!!!!! ******Update.....Update,Children's father passed away early morning hours September 22,2008 final stages of lung cancer. He was admitted to the hospital with what the physicians thought pneumonia. A spot was found on his lung, a biopsy was attempted but could not be completed due to heavy bleeding. He was placed on life support and medically induced coma. He did not survive.********My second and LAST husband, is a Lt with one of the law enforcement agencies we dispatch for. You know the saying "don't get your honey where you get your money" and "water and oil don't mix"? All, I can say is, THAT'S RIGHT!!! and NOTE: I understand why some agencies require psych evals prior to employment.Thank goodness for the word DIVORCE!! So you see I have been exposed to both spectrums of the law, those that oppose and those that uphold. My days off which are few, are spent painting and making changes to my house, and spending time with my friends. My daughter and her hmmm significant other have moved to Kentucky taking my grandchildren, with them, so there won't be many Zac and Zoie updates. I have learned over the years, that house work and lawn work can be put off, time is too short to miss moments with those special ones in your life. Be it children, mother, father, friends, relatives or a significant other. Never Get So Busy Making A Living That You Forget To Make A Life !!! "DEFINITION OF A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER- SOMEONE WHO, AT ONE POINT IN THEIR LIFE, WROTE A "BLANK CHECK" MADE PAYABLE TO THE CITIZENS OF THE JURISDICTION THAT THEY SERVE, FOR AN AMOUNT OF "UP TO, AND INCLUDING THEIR LIFE." MANY IN THIS WORLD FAIL TO RECOGNIZE OR REMEMBER THIS CONCEPT. "DEFINITION OF A TELECOMMUNICATOR----- THE INTUITION THAT WILL BACK LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS TO COVER THAT "BLANK CHECK" , SO THAT NO ONE'S INVESTMENTS ARE LOST!"
