As the role of science and technology plays an increasingly important role in solving crimes, more and more law enforcement agencies are employing civilian crime scene analysts and crime lab scientists. Forensic Science is the application of scientific techniques to criminal investigations, and is used to analyze and provide evidence to investigators and attorneys. Students in Forensic Science majors are involved in several primary areas of study:

• Application of forensic science
• Scientific ethics
• Laboratory skills
Forensic Science – both in school and in the real world – is a hands-on discipline that relies heavily on analytical ability. Obtaining an undergraduate degree in Forensic Science will prepare you for a career in a number of government or private laboratories, or for an advanced degree in the physical sciences or allied healthcare.

You do not have to be a police officer to go into forensic science. Most positions in forensics, either in the lab or as a crime scene technician, are non-sworn civilian positions.
