Ohio uses a mix of community college-run police academies and department-run police academies. The college-run academies are open to anyone who wishes to put themselves through the academy. Recruits who successfully graduate receive college credits for their academy time. Department-operated academies are open only to new recruits hired and sponsored by the department. All academies in the state are certified by the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council.
