To those of you who are looking at Phoenix U or another, for profit college for a CJ degree, don't. Check out your local community college and start taking courses there. Cheaper and a better education for the first two years of a 4 year degree. Smaller classes, professors who actually teach and meet with you, not TA's in lecture halls of 300, etc. Also, ANY college, not just a CJ degree is beneficial. Study what interests you and you have a passion for. It could be English, sociology, biology, business, whatever. Most PDs are not looking for a CJ major, they are looking for a candidate with some college honed by life experience. Take some CJ classes so you know what you are getting into. If it becomes your major, great. If not, pursue what you love and get that education.

Emily, what are you talking about? Each state has different laws and stauatory law is what is enforced. Jargon? Each career field has it's own vocabulary. Policing is no different.

Tried Border Patrol twice then they stopped hiring and went on a hiring freeze till who know when, when i had learned spanish and studied it for over a year, to get on with them, and wasn't able to make the test twice which they did not come out to Utah that often anyway. For me an FBI, DEA, ATF, or IA Detective, would be the greatest honor to work for a Federal Law Enforcement Bureau or Detective in a police department where corruption is high.

Is the legal background, Natural (Common) Law VERSUS Statutory Law being articulated, just in case there is a conflict between jurisdictions ... ? Between Roman [status quo] Law and Anglo-Saxon [peace-keeping] Law?
Why is there a jargon-vocabulary for law enforcement? Are we trying to set up a SEPARATION between Law Enforcement as a community and the people whom they serve as keepers of the Peace?

The University Of Phoenix has a great criminal justice program. I know one local agency that only hires applicants with a bachelors or higher education even though only a high school diploma is required. ALSO, you must have close to EXCELLENT credit. A trend among most police agencies now is the hiring of applicants 25 years and up. The reason for this is because they have so many problems with young people right out of college. No life experience, no job experience, only school, these people tend to have problems in law enforcement.

You have to have a clean background. No drugs in the last five years. Zero use of cocaine, meth, steroids or other mind altering drugs. If you lie they will find out and you can never apply again. Intense physical and written test, along with psyche evaluation, memorization of numbers up to 8 digits forwards and backwards, face memorization test as well. Get a degree in business management with a minor in criminal justice administration. I
