Just went thru a voice stress analyzer (which I understand has replaced the polygraph in most agencies). The investigator went over every question with me, and I passed the test the first go round. But he wanted to run through all the questions again - and my mind was wandering instead of staying focused, so I failed on 3 questions. He went through the questions yet a third time... but didn't share the results. I think I failed again. He shook my confidence, and my nerves, and my own mind started playing "mind games" with me. Regardless, it was a good learning experience - it wasn't for a paid position, so, not a huge bad thing. I will be better prepared next time, and I will know what to expect.

ive been thinking of choosing law enforcement for a career path since ive had a hard time deciding one. i have only one issue that may prevent me form becoming one. i currently have a restraining order against me and i have one against the suitor for terroristic threats(was able to prove that it wasnt me threatening that person and that my place was broken into and that person friend is actually the one who made the phone call when i was out of state) but the judge feared that id somehow retailiate against the other person so he finalized it. how does this affect the choice? im sure i wont be able to get rid of the restraining order so im sure i wont be able to choose this path but i do not have any criminal background or anything driving record sucks but i havent gotten a ticket in a cpl of years

    - Both my arrests were just bad mistakes: A distasteful joke, and having a weapon on school campus.

I've been arrested twice - in about one year. Both misdemeanors. I'm not afraid to talk about the situation, but... could this spoil any chances I may have?

There's nothing more I want than to become a law enforcement officer. Does anyone know if they an agency can hold government assistance against you? Such as medi-cal? I just graduated with my bachelor's degree and I have been trying to get any job until I can apply to the agency I want to but its been very difficult to find any job. My wife is pregnant and we need some type of medical coverage while I find a job, would that be held against you in the background check?
