Learn to Ask the Right Questions
A big mistake rookies often make is not asking the right questions. Make sure you are getting all the information you need to complete your reports. Be sure to hit the most important questions — who, what, when, where, and how. Writing competent and complete reports will go a long way in proving your merit as a ground-level officer.

Good advice. Being cocky and not listening is the kiss of death. Show respect to veterans and find one you trust and ride his shirt tail. Ask him and leave the Sgt to important matters. Do not spread rumors or gossip. Other officers will stay 200 miles south of you.

Good list here, too many new guys don't listen to anyone. Luckily, they get weeded out, but not quickly as we would like.
