5. Check Spelling and Grammar

Because so much policing activity ends up in a report and in the courtroom, make sure to double-check your spelling and grammar.  It’s not wise to solely rely on the computerized spell check function.  Sloppy paperwork is often used by legal counsel to attack your attention to detail and impugn your integrity and credibility.  Remember, all the defense counsel has to do is introduce reasonable doubt into your criminal case.  Police chiefs view your resume as an indicator of how you will handle the documentation surrounding legal cases.
